Marisa Crabb, Violist, is a native of Binghamton, NY. She holds a B.M. and M.M. from Ithaca College in Viola Performance and Music Education and currently directs the Vestal High School Orchestra in the Vestal School District and is the adjunct viola instructor at SUNY Broome. Along with her career of teaching stringed instruments, which extends to the Cumberland County School District in Fayetteville, NC and Penfield High School in Penfield, NY, she has also taught the choral program in the Niagara Falls Catholic Schools in Niagara Falls, NY, is a past Board member of the Binghamton Youth Symphony, and is the current Artistic Director of the Binghamton Downtown Singers. She had the privilege of studying viola at the prestigious Aspen Music Festival and School, working with renowned teachers and conductors including Violists Heidi Castleman and Victoria Chiang, Maestros David Zinman, James Conlon, Robert Spano, and Murray Sidlin. Mrs. Crabb studied conducting with Drs. Stephen Peterson and Maud Hickey of Ithaca College, and with Maestro Grant Cooper of the West Virginia Symphony. Additional string studies include Music Education in Biarritz, France at the International Music Education Conference and the Meadowmount School of Music (founded by Ivan Galamian). She has performed in Master classes with Michael Tree of the Guarneri String Quartet and the Ying String Quartet, as well as ensemble violist with pop vocal talents such as Josh Groban and Clay Aiken. Her orchestral performance career includes being a substitute with the Binghamton Philharmonic, Orchestra of the Southern Finger Lakes, and the BC Pops and she continues to perform on occasion with the Cayuga Chamber Orchestra and Tri-Cities Opera Orchestra. Prior to 2013, Mrs. Crabb had also performed regularly as Principal Violist of the Binghamton Downtown Singers Orchestra. She has since then led the Binghamton Downtown Singers and Orchestra in highly successful performances of Jenkin’s Requiem (a 2013 area premier) and Handel’s Messiah. She has taught private violin and viola students between 2004 and 2010. Mrs. Crabb’s professional affiliations include memberships in the National Association for Music Education (NAfME), the Broome County Music Educators Association (BCMEA), the American String Teachers Association (ASTA), and the Local #380 American Federation of Musicians.
