Community College Health CARES (Career, Acceleration, Retention + Employment Support) Consortium Project

Source of Funds: US Department of Labor Strengthening Community Colleges Training Grant via Onondaga Community College

Abstract: As one of an 11-member Community College Health CARES Consortium, led by Onondaga Community College, SUNY Broome will collaborate on regional and statewide strategies to strengthen Career Pathways within health care and social assistance industry through the following activities:

  • Develop and formalize a Consortium Charter to operationalize the work of the Consortium;
  • Participate in a Sector-focused Community of Practice (CoP) and encourage faculty and staff to participate in cross-regional professional development and planning offered through the project.
  • Collaborate to facilitate regional and cross-regional employer engagement in pathway programs and recruitment;
  • Collaborate with Partners within and across regions to align and enhance/accelerate targeted Career Pathway Programs.
  • Leverage the College’s expertise, partnerships, and resources, as outlined in the budget narrative, to support the success of this initiative;
  • Participate in program assessment, evaluation, and reporting to support the development and continuous improvement of the Career Pathways System and Career Pathways Programs.

In addition to participating in (A) the Community of Practice (CoP), and (B) Employer Engagement, SUNY Broome will work to:

  • Develop and implement 3 primary pathway acceleration/retention strategies (Prior Learning Assessment, Development of Agreements, and Development/Implementation of Career Pathway materials and supports), and
  • Accelerate or enhance at least 1 of 4 Consortium-targeted HCSA career pathway programs (Nursing Pathway).

Workforce Development Component of New Energy New York’s “1 Billion Build Back Better Regional Challenge” Initiative

Source of Funds: US Economic Development Administration via Binghamton University & The SUNY Research Foundation

Abstract: As part of the New Energy New York (NENY) 13-member coalition of diverse stakeholders, led by Binghamton University, SUNY Broome will focus primarily on the training needs of the growing battery development and manufacturing industry cluster in upstate New York’s Southern Tier by expanding existing and deploying new training programs while developing strategies to overcome barriers to training and labor force participation. In addition to developing clean energy curricula via in-person, virtual synchronous, and virtual asynchronous instructional formats, SUNY Broome will provide additional support for employers to create high quality work-based learning opportunities such as co-ops, internships, apprenticeships and internal training programs.

Grant Period: 48 months to end no later than September 30, 2027

SUNY Workforce Development – STEM Industry Pathways Track

Abstract: To support development of a Credit for Prior Learning review process for non-credit offerings and industry credentials, clarifying pathways within the related degree programs, and creating industry relevant non-credit and credit micro-credentials that a student can achieve on their path to a certificate or degree program. Anticipated pathways include: Introduction to Manufacturing, Machining, CAD, Applied Electronics for Manufacturing Assemblers, Computer Programming, Computer Networking, and Virtual Reality.

First-Generation College Celebration

Source of Funds: NASPA Center for First-generation Student Success and the Council for Opportunity in Education

Abstract: This mini-grant will be used to enhance the first-generation focus of SUNY Broome’s Men of Excellence program by supporting the purchase of First-Gen/campus branded t-shirts and snacks for monthly plenary sessions. The first plenary session will occur in September to introduce SUNY Broome first-gen scholars to each other. Subsequent meetings will be held monthly (Oct and Nov) and serve as the lead up to the Nov 8th First-Gen College Celebration.

SUNY Broome Student Financial Wellness Pathways Initiatives
