SUNY Broome Community College provides an International Student Orientation program in the Fall and Spring semesters to welcome new international students and prepare you properly for the semester. Orientation is NOT optional. Your arrival date on your I-20 is designed for you to arrive in time for orientation to allow you to be registered and find housing in time for the semester to begin. It is essential that you arrive in time for orientation.
During orientation, you will be required to take your English and Math Placement Tests. These tests are required to register for classes.
Orientation will address a variety of topics such as:
- Immigration Requirements & Responsibilities
- The US Classroom
- Life in the US & Binghamton/Culture Shock
- Technology Session
- Campus Resources/Services
- Campus Tour
- Health Screenings
- Registration for Classes
- and much more
Spring International Orientation is a two-three day orientation that begins a week before classes. The Fall orientation is four-five days and begins one and a half weeks before classes begin. The difference in length and timing is based on the size of the incoming class and limited time for arrival after the holidays.
Special Note
Health Science students may have an orientation program for their academic department IN ADDITION to the International Student Orientation requirement.
