The Medical Assistant Program is designed to ensure that students are well prepared to enter the profession as a Medical Assistant and have the ability to continue their learning throughout their professional careers. At the completion of the MA program, graduates will be able to function as medical assistants who are competent in the following:

The New York State Department of Education Division of Professional Licensing does not regulate the practice of Medical Assistants. Licensed physicians are responsible for determining the duties of Medical Assistants and assuring that any employee under their supervision does not engage in activities that would constitute the practice of medicine.
After completing two years of study and graduation from this program at Broome Community College,a student will sit for the Certified Medical Assisting Exam to become a Certified Medical Assistant. The student may find a position in a physician’s office, hospital, medical center of a clinical, industry, or research site, or similar health care facility. Your opportunities for employment are excellent in this rapidly expanding, varied occupation.
