Why should you participate in the CCT?
The CCT is a function of the SWARM that allows students to document and keep track of their activities outside of academics. This includes participation in clubs, attendance at events, and leadership experience. Students can gain access to the CCT after they graduate or transfer from SUNY Broome. Using their log-in information, students can print out the transcript from the website and they can edit/change what is included on each transcript so it can be tailored to the application that they are using it for. The CCT transcript can be used as a regular academic transcript. It can be used to supplement their other application materials when they are applying to schools, scholarships, internships, or jobs.
Why is it valuable?
Participating in the CCT encourages students to be involved in out-of-classroom educational experiences. Students will have experience and different competency levels of seven different areas including: leadership, health and wellness, SUNY Broome, post graduation or transferring, philanthropy, cultural competency, and social interactions. The actual transcript legitimizes the experience and achievements that the student had while at the college.
Colony Leader
Students will learn to become engaging and dynamic leaders by interacting with other students and participating in workshops dedicated to leadership skills. Some of these skills might be group dynamics, communication skills, understanding leadership theory, conflict and resolution, etc.
Leaving the Nest
Students will gain skills needed for life after SUNY Broome, whether it is transferring or graduating. Some activities would include financial competency (budgeting, applying for loans and/or financial aid, file taxes, etc.), resume writing and cover letter writing, mock interviews, assistance in applying to colleges, assistance in applying for jobs/internships, and attending a job fair.
Joining the Nest
This category is intended engage students with our campus community. Whether you have been at SUNY Broome for a few semesters or you are a first year student getting to know SUNY Broome, being engaged in activities is paramount to your success. Participants will learn how to get around the physical campus as well as the electronic face of the university. Some activities would include participating in a tour of campus, attending information sessions for how to register for classes, and exploring majors/careers. Additionally, students should learn how to work more efficiently, and gain study habits and note-taking skills.
Diverse Dragonfly
When students attend Diverse Dragonfly events, they will gain an understanding of different people, cultures, social issues, and ideas from around the world and within our own community. Students will be challenged to expand modes of thinking about social justice, historically disenfranchised groups, as well as power and privilege. A student’s involvement with a culturally identified organization or an event that highlights these ideals would satisfy this category.
Social Butterfly
Social Butterfly is very broad in terms name but very simple in practice. This is a category in which students would just be interacting and “making connections” with other people. While events may be fun (e.g. dances, basketball games and picnics), many of these events will include talking with other people in a purposeful manner, and therefore considered a social butterfly event. The most significant example would be a networking event.
Giving Back to the Nest
The definition of service learning is incorporating community service with meaningful reflection intended to enrich the learning experience. If you attend a Giving Back to the Nest event, you will be giving back to both the community or SUNY Broome in a meaningful way.
Well-Beeing
If you attend a Well-Beeing event, you will learn about mental, physical, and/or emotional health. You may be participating in a group yoga practice, a 5K or have discussions about sex-education.
