In the course of his career, he performed over 50 major roles with opera and music theater companies throughout the United States and Europe. As a baritone, he has sung most of the major roles: Barber of Seville, Merry Widow, Traviata, Pagliacci, Magic Flute, Lucia Di Lammermoor to name a few. He performed the role of Escamillo in Peter Brooks, La Tragedie de Carmen at Lincoln Center. As a choral soloist, he has sung Carmina Burana, Messiah, Bach, Mozart, Beethoven’s 9th symphony, Equally at home in musical theater, Mr. Messing was chosen by William Hammerstein to portray Gaylord Ravenal in SHOWBOAT for an 8 month European tour. He has starred in MAN OF LA MANCHA, CAROUSEL, SWEENEY TODD, THE MUSIC MAN, THE KING AND I, SOUND OF MUSIC, WEST SIDE STORY, among others.
Mr. Messing has been choral accompanist and on the voice faculty at SUNY-BROOME since 2015.
