Jeff C. McAuley was born in New Brunswick, New Jersey on July 18, 1973. He grew up in Binghamton, New York, where he began a relationship with the cello at the age of 7. After winning numerous local awards, he went on to study cello performance at the Aaron Copland School of Music where his primary teachers were Stephen Kates and Barbara Stein Mallow.
Before entering graduate school, Jeff spent three oddly productive years in San Francisco CA., where he was able to explore more alternative forms of music outside the realm of his more traditional classical undergraduate training. It was during this period that Jeff first began composing. He later went on to receive a M.M. degree from Northern Illinois University under the guidance of Marc Johnson and other members of the Vermeer String Quartet.
After completing his graduate studies, Jeff moved to Istanbul, Turkey, where he spent over ten years. While in Istanbul, he was a faculty member in the music departments at Istanbul Bilgi University (2001-2005), and Halic University (2006-2010).
Jeff currently lives in Binghamton, NY., where he teaches at SUNY Broome, the Children’s Home of Wyoming Conference, through the Johnson City Central School District, and privately at cellobandstudios. He continues to compose and produce music for various media projects including that for TV and film. He has performed as a soloist, recitalist, chamber musician, and/or orchestral musician in the United States, Europe, and Asia. His music has been broadcast on radio and television, used for dance and theatrical productions, and has been performed live in various venues throughout the world.
