Abstract: This Major Effort creates a Virtual Reality Academic Room to improve applied learning opportunities for students enrolled in the four CTE programs of study in the College’s Computer Science department. Students will benefit from immersive simulation-based learning that fosters
excitement about computer sciences education. Using mobile mixed reality platforms, students in computer sciences programs will learn about development processes, industrial, professional, and gaming applications, and other uses of virtual reality (VR) and augmented reality (AR) software and devises. Projected outcomes include increased rates of employment and/or transfer to four-year degree programs and graduation/completion for overall and nontraditional students in the targeted Computer Sciences programs. These outcomes will be evaluated by tracking rates of persistence, graduation/attainment of recognized credentials, and placement (transfer and employment), and completing semester-to-semester and/or year-to-year comparisons of tracked data.
