Purpose of Grant: In June 2017, the SUNY Board of Trustees adopted the TeachNY Policy on Educator Preparation. As part of its efforts to support campuses in policy implementation, the Office of the Provost at SUNY System is investing in a series of competitive grants to support innovative approaches to teaching and learning throughout the clinical practice continuum.
Project Period: October 28, 2019 – June 30, 2020
Application Deadline: September 13, 2019
Project Description: This support aligns with the call in TeachNY for campuses to:
- Strengthen the relationship between coursework and clinical experiences, increase the quantity and sharpen the focus of clinical experiences, reorder the sequence of courses (to better scaffold learning), shift the location of courses (from a university classroom into a P‐12 school), and expand the scope of clinical experiences to include engagement with a greater diversity of students and educational contexts in a manner that deepens candidate understanding of educational equity and the enactment of equitable practices.
- Review their current partnerships with P‐12 schools in the areas of practice and research in order to enhance simultaneous renewal, including through induction as a means to support the transition into the professional context.
There are two funding tiers available. Applicants are strongly encouraged to select the funding tier that best suits the project. Please do not submit duplicate or similar projects at multiple funding tiers.
- Tier 1: $5,000 to $15,000 for projects that advance access and equity through development and/or evaluation of clinical experience partnerships and practices, resources (including small proof-of-concept objectives), or related outcomes. P‐12 collaborations are required and interdepartmental or cross‐campus collaborations are recommended. Campus or external in‐kind budget resources are encouraged.
- Tier 2: Up to $50,000 for projects that advance access and equity through further development of a clinical practice innovation and/or research the impact of particular clinical partnership and practice interventions. P‐12 collaborations are required and interdepartmental or cross‐campus collaborations are recommended. 25% of the requested project funds must be matched by the campus or a partner through in‐kind resources.
