SUNY Broome Community College is a two year institution that provides Associate degrees in a variety of majors. Our two years are same as the first two years at larger American universities. After earning their degree at SUNY Broome, many of our graduates transfer to four year universities and earn a bachelors degree in just two more years. Our graduates have transferred to prestigious universities including, Cornell University, Binghamton University, Boston University and numerous other locations throughout the country and the world.
SUNY Broome is the located in Binghamton NY, an affordable and safe community in central New York with a population of about 100,000. I think you will find it to be a friendly city with the community and college people receptive to international students.
Compared to many four year American universities we are: less expensive, have smaller class sizes (average student teacher ratio is 22 to 1) and have more flexible admissions requirements. The TOEFL and SAT are not required for admission as we are able to provide full time English as a Second Language if needed. Here they can develop the skills they need to be a stronger student at a 4 year institution.
SUNY Broome has a strong commitment to international education and its international student population. The College currently supports over 160 international students from 50 countries. The International Student Organization (ISO) and other student activities provide SUNY Broome’s international students with the opportunity to create a sense of community on campus. In addition, SUNY Broome’s well respected faculty and staff have a strong commitment to their students. Many international students comment on the positive effect of this dedicated academic and personal support.
The benefits of a community college setting are numerous for the student. With 160 international students on campus, students benefit from a more personal approach with their needs and concerns about immigration, academics, and life in the United States. SUNY Broome Community College is a great place for an international student to start their U.S. college education. We hope that you will consider recommending SUNY Broome to your students.
