The Histological Technician program at SUNY Broome Community College has been approved by the New York State Department of Education as a licensure-qualifying program for the New York State Clinical Laboratory Technician. Graduates of the program are eligible for the licensure in New York State, contingent upon the student submitting all application paperwork and fees and have earned an associate’s degree with the proper distribution and number of science courses required to meet NYS licensure requirements. For further information, please visit the Office of the Professions.
Graduates of the program are eligible for certification by the new American Society of Clinical Pathology Board of Certification (ASCP BOR) using Route 2, which requires one year of full-time acceptable experience in a histopathology (clinical, veterinary, industry, or research) laboratory in the U.S., Canada, or an accredited laboratory within the last 10 years.
The issuing of the HT degree, however, is not contingent upon the students passing any type of external certifying or licensing examination.
