In supporting the SUNY Broome Vision and Mission, the Division of Campus Life has developed the following Mission, Goals, and Outcomes/Objectives. Campus Life is composed of Athletics, Counseling Services, Student Activities, Student Housing, and the Dean of Students Office.
In working collaboratively with entities throughout campus, the Division of Campus Life supports all SUNY Broome community members by creating inclusive experiences that provide opportunities for engagement while fostering the individuals’ intellectual, social, and personal development. Campus Life embodies this mission by supporting residential and commuting students, as well as the campus community, through the provision of services related to student activities, housing, counseling, athletics, conduct administration, compliance management, crisis response and evaluation, and Title IX leadership with the view to making the student experience a pleasant one.
Campus Life Goals:
Diversity and Inclusion
- Generate opportunities for students to engage with, and develop an appreciation for, the diversity present within and outside of SUNY Broome
Teaching and Learning
- Develop and facilitate educational experiences that allow students the opportunity to learn and grow both inside and outside of the classroom
Fiscal Responsibility, Program Development, and Infrastructure Sustainability
- Utilize resources responsibly while maintaining focus on creating systems that allow students the opportunity to participate in, or get information for, activities and services conducive to their unique lifestyle
Student Support and Success
- Foster student growth and success by providing meaningful opportunities for engagement with student service support systems
Civic Engagement, Community Engagement, and Service-Learning
- Create opportunities for all SUNY Broome community members to engage in activities that increase their awareness of, and appreciation for, the importance of being a socially just individual
Strategic and Continuous Improvement
- Regularly assess the Campus Life program’s effect on the student experience, use the information gathered to make informed decisions on the future of the Campus Life program, and, using that information, put plans for improvement into action
Campus Life Outcomes:
Diversity and Inclusion
- Increase outreach efforts towards non-traditional students, distance education students, and students who have family members that they are responsible for
- Increase Campus Life staff members’ cross-cultural competency
- Create a conduct sanction that includes a cross-cultural competency component
- Create opportunities for staff to engage and support first generation college students
- Continue to create additional locations on campus that highlight our multicultural community
Teaching and Learning
- Make publicly available a variety of presentation topics that Campus Life staff members are able to present to students
- Enhance events and activities, including common hour programs, regarding mental health and wellness topics
Fiscal Responsibility, Program Development, and Infrastructure Sustainability
- Increase resources available to Campus Life staff so that we can better serve students
- Continue to improve athletics facilities
- Update standardized communication tools to more closely match receiver characteristics
- Develop and institute short and long-term plans for furnishing replacement throughout the Student Village
- Inform additional SUNY Broome offices and departments of the ability to track events and have those loaded into the SWARM, SUNY Broome’s co-curricular management software
Student Support and Success
- Improve student access to on and off-campus housing options
- Utilize technology so that students can better utilize public transportation
- Adjust Welcome Week efforts to better serve student needs
- Create and implement new ways to inform students about SUNY Broome’s behavioral expectations of them
- Increase the program efficiency of the student conduct process
- Continue to increase and/or improve student engagement opportunities
- Increase marketing of student engagement opportunities to faculty
Civic Engagement, Community Engagement, and Service-Learning
- Create clearinghouse for service learning and volunteerism
- Encourage various student and staff cohorts to engage in community engagement and service opportunities
Strategic and Continuous Improvement
- Research best practices, and implement those practices that meet students’ needs and institutional values
- Utilize national best practices to serve as a baseline for advancing programmatic endeavors
- Continue to seek professional development training opportunities in an effort to stay current with best practices in engaging a diverse population
- Assess the success of current student-athlete recruiting efforts and modify strategies to best ensure student enrollment and participation
- Improve technological communication between Banner and 3rd party programs
